HE'S DEAD, LAH

Choong Yik Sheng, 99, who passed away yesterday, will
finally
be issued his MyKad.THE STAR

Special officer to the Home Minister Datuk Lau Yeng Peng
further said that he will also present Choong’s MyKad
to the caretaker of the old folks’ home at the Siri
Jayanti Metta Welfare Association in Setapak where
Choong lived.

What?! A dead person wants a MyKad! What for?
Moreover, also the Home Ministry officer going to present the
MyKad to the caretaker? Now isn't something wrong here?
I mean according to our laws, no one should hold/keep someone
identity card/MyKad, right? The caretaker CANNOT keeps the
deceased's MyKad.
So why the government is giving a dead man'd MyKad to the
caretaker? By right, they should issue a death certificate instead
of a MyKad? Unless someone tells me otherwise.

  1. 3 weeks before he passed away, he requested me to apply for his IC. He has always been a Malaysian, however his birth was not registered before our Independence. He was away from Malaysia and residing in Thailand for almost 33 years. When he returned to Malaysia, no one could help him apply for his IC. Someone brought him to our old folks home when he was 96 after many old folks home rejected his application.

Not realising that there maybe many issues without a IC, we took him in. For 3 years Choong Yik Sheng has been a jovial lad and thinking of getting his IC. Many a times we were lost on how to get him his IC. Until 3 weeks before his death his request was made come true with the kind and understanding Datuk Lau Yeng Peng, special officer to our Home Minister after reading his plight in Sin Chew Daily.

Yes, we needed the IC before we can cremate him and be issued properly his death certificate. This is important as before his death he was told that he will get his IC personally from Datuk Lau Yeng Peng. And as promise Datuk Lau yeng Peng honour his word and make sure the IC was delivered to him. The IC need to be passed to the Caretaker before he can be offically cremated as a Malaysian.

Hope you get a clear explaintion from a guy who have look after him for 3 years.
