MAHATHIRISM

"They condemn Mahathirism. What is wrong with Mahathirism?
The country was developed for 22 years because of Mahathirism.
So I think it is good," he told reporters.

No matter how cynical you look at Dr. Mahathir,
we have to be realistic with facts.

During his premiership of 22 years not much
people complained about their financial status.
Most of us were living comfortably then, even though
the country was facing countless problems and adversities.

Let me try to recollect what we went thru
during Mahathirism era.

1.The Gulf War- in 1990, where Iraq troops invaded Kuwait.

2. SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) - in 2002, we had SARS epidemic throughout the world.

3. Asian financial crisis in 1997.-Currency manipulation.
This was when Dr.Mahathir came out with the idea
of pegging our currency with RM3.80 to US1.00.

4. Reformasi movement in 1998 initiated by Anwar Ibrahim.
This was the time ‘street demonstration’ was originated in Malaysia.

5. Nipah virus-in 1998 where we had a big outbreak
of the disease in Malaysia.


These were some big problems we faced then, but
we (most Malaysians) were steadfast and were not
really affected financially.

Like Mukhriz had said"If Mahathirism brings us
prosperity,why not, give it to me anytime".
